Desease Information

Small pebble-like substances that form in the gallbladder and can block the normal flow of bile resulting in inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis). The crystalline formations are created as a result of a concretion or accretion of normal or abnormal bile components. Gallstones can be as small as a grain of salt and as big as a golf ball. In some cases only one, very large stone is formed and in others it’s many small stones. They are predominantly comprised of cholesterol, but in some cases can be made of bilirubin and calcium salts that are found in bile. They can be checked for during an < a href="">endoscopic ultrasound.
